Parent FAQs

  • Can you tell me about SpringHill?
    • SpringHill has a long history of delivering an outstanding camp experience to campers and families. You can find out more about the history at this website, springhillcamps.com/MI/about

  • What other programs does SpringHill offer?
    • SpringHill is more than a summer camp. We offer year-round programming that includes: Winter Teen Retreats, Women's Retreats, Family Camp, Group Retreats and much more. You can find out more at springhillcamps.com

  • How does SpringHill hire staff?
    • We have searched the country high and low for the most amazing and caring staff just for your child. We strive to find a staff that is spiritually, mentally and emotionally mature to ensure that not only is your child in good hands, but in good hearts. Each staff member has been personally interviewed, reference checked and background checked before they even set foot on the property. Once here, they receive from 40-80 hours of intensive job specific training which includes camper care, behavior management and preventing and/or identifying child abuse.

  • Will my child fit in and be accepted at SpringHill?
    • While your child is at camp, we make sure every camper is given individual attention and is included in the experience. Your child will be in a cabin with others of similar age, and our counselor to camper ratio of 1:7 (1:5 for 1-3rd grade) ensures their needs will be met. Our highly trained counselors emphasize the importance of teamwork, safety, and respect, and build a strong culture of inclusion throughout the week. We provide a safe and encouraging place for your child to know and grow in their relationship with Jesus and others!

  • What will my child's spiritual experience look like?
    • The mission of SpringHill is to create life-impacting experiences that enable young people to know and grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. We will openly promote who God is and share Biblical truths from God's Word each and every day at camp through worship, music, prayer and small groups. However, we respect each individual camper's right to make their own decision regarding this important spiritual matter. Every staff member is a follower of Christ and will model Jesus-like character.

You can see our statement of faith here

  • I'm thinking about sending my camper more than one week. Does the camp experience change from week to week?
    • If your child will be attending more than one week of camp in the same program, the experience will be similar. If they register for a different program, the activities and experience will be different. They will have different cabin mates and different counselors the second week.

  • What is your policy on behavior problems?
    • We do enforce a no tolerance policy at camp. All counselors are trained in our behavior management and anti-bullying policy. If a behavior does arise that causes a disturbance: the child is removed from the situation, there is a very caring conversation about a change in behavior. We partner with the camper to come up with a solution that works for everyone, grace is given, and consequences are enforced, if necessary. At no point will corporal punishment be allowed. If there is no change in the camper's behavior, the Camp Director will call the child's parent/guardian and discuss the options.

  • How do I request my child be placed with a friend/relative?
    • During the registration process one of the steps gives you the ability to request a roommate for your child. If you choose to invite a friend or relative to be in the same cabin as your camper, you will need to include the campers name and parents email address. An invitation email will be sent to the parents and they can deny or accept the invitation. This invitation will include a code that the parents will use to accept the roommate invitation. When you log into your account, you will be able to see if the invitation has been accepted or is still pending. In order for the campers to be connected to each other, the invitation HAS to be accepted.

  • Will you provide medical care at camp?
    • We depend upon volunteer physicians, nurses and EMTs as well as employ Health Officers for summer camp sessions. The medical staff respond to emergencies, distribute medications and provide basic first aid care for our resident campers.

  • How do you manage sunscreen application and hydration?
    • We ask that you send sunscreen with your camper. Our counselors will ask them to re-apply sunscreen after lunch if the cabin is scheduled to be outside. We encourage campers to bring a water bottle to camp. We provide water coolers at the outdoor activities.

  • What are the payment options for registration?
    • You can pay by cash, check or credit card. A $150 deposit is required to register. During the first week of May, final payment will be withdrawn from your financial institution that you provided during registration process. If you register after the first week in May, you will need to pay for camp in full.

  • What is the cancellation policy?
    • If cancellation is made after registration, it is forfeiture of your deposit. Cancellations within 21 days prior to camp start date will result in forfeiture of one half the cost of camp. No-shows for a scheduled camp will result in forfeiture of the full camp fee. Cancellations must be requested in writing (mail, e-mail or fax). Refunds will be mailed in the form of a check within 4 weeks of cancellation.

  • What do I do if my child is put on a waitlist?
    • When any of the camps reach their capacity, we will create a waitlist. This list is filtered by the date that you register your child. You will be contacted when a spot becomes available. If there are no remaining spots for that camp, we encourage you to look at the other camps that are offered.

  • Is there a discount for siblings?
    • Yes! Overnight Families that register more than two campers from their immediate family (i.e. brother, sister) will receive a discount of $100.00 per additional camper. This discount does not apply to campers attending more than one camp session

  • Is there a camp store?
    • Yes. The Trading Post is open during check-in and on closing day for parents and visitors. Each camper will visit the Trading Post daily. Snacks and drinks are available for your child to purchase, along with many low cost souvenir items, as well as SpringHill attire. Typical spending is approximately $20-$30.

  • What needs to be completed before the first day of camp?
    • You need to complete your camper's health form. If you choose to request a friend to be with your child, that request will have to be made and confirmed one week prior to the start of camp. We require that any camper balance be paid in full.

  • What will Sunday check-in look like?
    • The goal of registration on Sunday is to make sure all camper forms are collected and completed, medication is dropped off and any outstanding balance is paid. You will also get to meet your child's counselors. The entire process should only last about 60 minutes. After you drop off your camper with their counselor, you are free to leave.

  • What will check-out look like?
    • You will need to bring a photo I.D. with you to the check-out process. On Friday and Saturday the check-out begins at 10am. Each cabin group will have a mini-rally, where you can hear about your camper's week at camp. We will also have closing ceremonies.

  • What will the 4-day program check in and check-out look like?
    • For our 4-day program for Jr. Explorer, Camp Classic and The Edge, check-in on Sunday or Wednesday. Check-out will be on Wednesday or Saturday.

  • Can I tour the camp?

  • What should my child bring to camp?
    • Please print the Essential Summer Camp Information linked here or located at the top of the summer camp pages. It will have the packing guidelines and the packing list for you. We recommend that you send clothes with you camper that can get dirty. Remember this is camp and we may have activities that may cause your child to get wet or dirty.

  • What time do I drop off and pick up my camper?
  • What do I do in order to pick up my camper early?
    • We ask that you notify our registration department prior to checking in your camper if you will need to pick your camper up early. Please remember to bring your photo ID when you pick up your camper.

  • What do I do if my child has special needs?
    • At SpringHill, we welcome and embrace all kids. If your child has special needs, we ask that you make camp aware of these needs. There is an area during online registration that can be completed with details about your child's needs. We are able to provide a one-on-one counselor upon your request at no extra charge. Please call our registration department for counselor availability. 231-734-2616.

  • What if my child required a special diet or has food allergies?
    • Our kitchen is familiar with special diets and food allergies. Please notify our camp food service office at 231.836.1047 and they will make proper arrangements in order to provide the best experience for your child.

  • What do I do if my camper has medications?
    • All medications need to be turned in to health services in the original container during registration on opening day. Counselor's will be given a list of campers' medications and the time they need to take it. During the camp week, campers will go with their counselor to the pharmacy or infirmary to get their medication at the designated time. If medications are taken outside of a meal time, health services will go to the camper's housing or activity area to distribute the medication. • Where is my camper on SmugMug?
    • We have a limited amount of staff to take as many camper pictures as possible. After the pictures have been taken we have to process them and then upload them to the website in order for you to view them. The password to access SmugMug is on your receipt that you received at check in.

  • Tell me about your camp's programs.
    • SpringHill specializes in delivering age-appropriate experiences each day, so a typical day will look different depending on the age of your camper. In general, elementary age campers will have a decentralized approach – they do activities, evening events, and Bible studies all in smaller cabin groups. This encourages campers get to know their cabin mates and their counselors in a safe, highly relational environment.

The Junior high age camps are more centralized in their approach. They do their activities, evening event, games, and worship sessions in large groups, while still meeting in a smaller same-gender cabin group for discussions. This allows lots of high energy, relevant, and exciting experiences while keeping the relational aspect of small groups and encouraging personal discovery.

Senior high students can register for two distinct camps – Teen Service Team (TST), or Basecamp.

TST campers serve for half the day in either the dining hall or accommodations or landscaping, and earn community service hours for their work. During the other half of the day they get to experience awesome camp activities, dig into relevant Bible-based curriculum, and come together for large group sessions. TST has been a very successful and popular SpringHill program! We offer 1-week and 2-week TST programs.
      More information on TST.

New this year! Basecamp offers High School campers an opportunity to enjoy the best activities SpringHill has to offer, while at the same time doing it in the context of meaningful peer and mentor relationships. Think of it as TST without the service component, or the New Frontier's edge program for High School students. It is a great introductory program for a student to experience community, SpringHill activities, relevant curriculum and programming that will challenge them to apply Christ's teachings long after they have left SpringHill.
