What
Good Is an Eye without an Ear?
The body is not made up of one
part but of many. Now if the foot should say, "because I am not a
hand, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason
cease to be part of the body. And if the ear should say, "Because I
am not am eye, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that
reason cease to be part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where
would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would
the sense of smell be? But in fact God has placed the parts in the body,
every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. -1 Corinthians
12:14-18
Have you ever thought about the way God
designed your body? Every part has its own special function. Imagine if
your eye decided that it was the most important part of your body and was
able to shut the other parts down. You could see, of course, but you
couldn't walk or hear or smile. Every part of the human body is necessary
and equally important.
In these Bible verses, the author is
using this example of the human body to talk to us about another kind of
body - a body or community of people who love and follow Jesus. Like
the human body, a community cannot be full of people who go it alone and
live life for themselves. It also cannot be full of people who look and
act and think exactly alike. A community needs people who are different
and who depend on each other to work together as a whole.
Share some questions
and answers with your parents:
Why do you think God made your body the way he did? Are there parts of
your body you could live without? Would your body still be a body if it
were only one part, like an eye or a hand? Would your family be a family
or your church be a church if it was made up of you alone? Why do you
think God compares his church to a body? Why did God make us to live and
worship and be together?

I Wish God Would
Tell Me
Dear Gracie,
I asked Jesus to come into my heart but I don't
feel like he's there. How do I know that it really happened?
From,
Not So Sure
Dear Not So Sure,
When you ask Jesus to "come into your
heart," you are asking Jesus to be your Savior-to forgive you of all
the things you've ever done wrong in your life and to be in charge of
your life forever. When you ask Jesus to take over this way, God sends
the Holy Spirit to live inside the deepest part of you where you really feel
and believe-your "heart." Another way to think of it is that,
through his Holy Spirit, Jesus now goes with you everywhere all the time.
This doesn't necessarily mean that you will "feel" him all the
time. But because God promises that if we ask him to take away our sins
and live life with us, he will, then we can be sure that he is truly with
us in our hearts. Whenever you don't feel like Jesus is in your heart,
talk to him about it. Pray and ask Jesus to help you feel his presence.
Also, it can help a lot to memorize a couple of God's promises from the
Bible like John 3:16 and 1 John 1:9. Then you can take these with you
anywhere!
Love, Gracie
Is there something you wish God would
tell you? Ask Gracie.
