Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot
remain silent.

no pain.

talk about it
Every
generation has its soundtrack. What's yours? What kind of music fills your
mind and informs your heart? If you're a Christian, is it cool to listen to
mainstream music? Does it matter who the music comes from if you dig it and
it makes you feel happy, connected and alive?
We want to know what you think! Talk about
it with other SpringHill campers, staff and counselors on the SpringHill MySpace page. Or, if you
have another question you'd like to discuss, email us.

what you said
· Who
decides how you spend your time in the summer? 85% say it's mostly you.
·
Nearly half of you surveyed say that if you could add one thing to your
summer it would be more time with friends; the other half would add a stint
on TST at SpringHill.
·
As for the main reason you become idle during the summer, 45% don't know
what to do and 30% have too much free time.
·
Only a quarter of you said that if you became idle this summer the first
thing you'd be willing to try is to talk to God and ask him to show you
what you could do.

sound
off, sing on
Joyful.
Worshipful. New. This is the kind of music the Bible encourages us to
listen to. Does this describe your play list? Do you prefer angry,
subversive and classic? What could get you to try something new — something that uplifts and gives God the glory? In
this issue of The Well, we'll look at what it takes to sing a new song and
why it matters that we do. We also have some choice words from an unplugged
interview with Sevenglory, reviews of bands coming to the SpringHill Music Festival, opportunities for you to sound
off and talk back, and more!

get
a new song
Worship
the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. — Psalm
100:2
Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things. —Psalm
98:1a
What’s the general feeling of the music you listen to most?
Melancholy? Angry? Happy? In these verses (and many others in this book of
the Bible), the psalmist advises that we fill our minds and hearts with
songs and music that uplift, that attempt to measure up to the awesomeness
of God. God deserves and desires your praise, your joyful songs. Is this
the kind of music that fills your mp3 player? Maybe it’s time to
alter your play list. Maybe you need a new song.
Think about this: Does the
music you listen to affect your mood, your thoughts or your feelings? Is
your love for God, your praise or your worship reflected in the music you
listen to? Should it be? Why do you think God cares about your music
choices? Or does he? What would “a new song” look like on your
play list?

sevenglory
unplugged
Sevenglory
sits down with SpringHill to talk about their music, their faith and other
random things. Be sure to see these guys LIVE this fall at the SpringHill Music Festival!
The Well: Where does your music come
from? Do you all have the same influences?
Sevenglory:
Musically we have a lot of different influences and it’s funny how we
can bring those together. Caleb listens to Brittney Spears; Gabe was really
into Rush; I (Josh) grew up practicing to old Lynyrd Skynyrd and Beattles
stuff; and Fred’s a fan of Keith Green.
The Well: Your new album, now three years
in the making, is due out in just a month or two. Any songs you’d
want to tell us about?
Sevenglory: One
of the songs is called “Show Me the Light” It’s a song
about not just sharing your faith and the message of the Gospel with your
friends; it’s about being who God has called you to be. You can be
light to your friends by making good choices and being bold enough to say,
“This is what I stand for.”
The Well: Fame can be seductive and
destructive. How do you guys keep going and stay on the right track?
Sevenglory: Every day I (Fred)
want to do my best. I want to look back a year from now and say, hey, I
wasn’t the best person but I did a much better job this year of being
what I feel God wants me to be. I might have messed up and I might not have
made all the best choices, but this next year I’m going to try even
harder. I want God to be proud of me, and the more we do that, the more he’s
going to show us what kind of life we can really have.
Catch Sevenglory’s video interview online;
then, come see them live on stage at SpringHill!

now playing
This
Is Who We Are
from Run Kid Run
The solid musicianship on this
first effort from Run Kid Run suggests that the band has been playing for
longer than they really have, recalling the heavier and more fast-paced
side of Jimmy Eat World, Weezer and Sanctus Real. For sure you've heard
stuff like this before, but Run Kid Run breaks through the power-pop crowd
simply by playing better and not shying away from being overtly spiritual.
There's never a question where the band is coming from or who they follow.
Check out the Run Kid Run website; then, see them live on stage this
fall at the SpringHill Music Festival!!
Over the Rooftops from Sevenglory
Sevenglory offers solid message-driven rock and roll, covering themes like
our dependency on God (pop track "Fall Apart," with its simmering
organ), encouragement (the hooky "Really Free," with its soaring
melody line flying high over the poppin' bass), and our need for His
guidance. Their new album to be released this fall brings Sevenglory's live
excitement to the studio with some solid hooks, great phrasing, and
memorable tunes. Get a sneak preview (and a good dose of old favorites) on
the Sevenglory website and at the SpringHill Music Festival!
