Yah mon. . .It's Summer at SpringHill!

Okay, so it's summer everywhere, but at SpringHill it's really summer. If you're in high school, it's the summer to experience serving others rather than simply being served yourself. It's the summer to go deeper in your faith than you've ever gone before, to build change-your-life relationships with peers and counselors. And, of course, since it's SpringHill, it's the summer for gargantuan lake plunges off the blob and screaming flights down the infamous zipline. That's just all in two weeks of TST! And if you're headed out for an Alpha Expeditions or Rivendell trip this summer, imagine all the adventure and search-your-soul experiences times ten. If you are gearing up for a SpringHill summer, we hope it is your absolute best experience of 2006. Even if you're not, we hope to get you "in the beat" with some good stuff in this issue of The Well.

Can You Be Used?

Then the Lord opened the donkey's mouth, and she said to Balaam, "What have I done to you to make you beat me these three times?" Balaam answered the donkey, "You have made a fool of me! If I had a sword in my hand, I would kill you right now." The donkey said to Balaam, "Am I not your own donkey, which you have always ridden, to this day? Have I been in the habit of doing this to you?" "No," he said. Then the Lord opened Balaam's eyes, and he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the road with his sword drawn. So he bowed low and fell facedown. - Numbers 22:28-31

If you've never heard of Balaam or his talking donkey, read the second part of Numbers 22. God uses an animal to achieve his purposes for Balaam. This passage gives us a glimpse at how far God will go to get his message across to those who need to hear it.

The most important message God wants for his creation is the message of the cross - reconciliation is free to those who believe in Jesus. What great news! It is God's desire that his creation (the creation that sinned against him and had to be separated from him) come back into a relationship with him.

But perhaps you've heard this message before. As believers and followers of Christ it is our privilege and responsibility to be bold in sharing the Good News. All too often, though, we back down because our faith is too small - we are afraid to stand on the gospel. Maybe you feel hesitant that God could use you to achieve great things for his kingdom. Maybe you've been laughed at or "beaten down" because of the gospel. Rejoice! Your efforts are not in vain!

Think about this: Has God ever used you to share the good news of Jesus? Do you believe that God can and will use you to achieve great things for his kingdom? The story of Balaam and his donkey shows us this side of God's character. Don't make God resort to using talking animals to get his message out before offering yourself as a messenger of his news!
