Thank Your Lucky Stars

...if you're coming to SpringHill this summer, that is.

Storybrook campers (all you finishing 1st, 2nd  or 3rd grade this spring), here's a peek at the amazing week you'll have:

The Fun: There's the "whoa, this is crazy" fun stuff: Flying Squirrel, horses, water trampoline, blob. Then, there's the "new, never done this at SpringHill" super fun stuff: Storybrook zipline, gusher waterslide, one-hour horse and one-hour sports majors. And, of course, there's the "only, ever at SpringHill" absolutely amazing fun stuff: Skittle Skattle battle, LAVENRAC, face washing. Oh, yes, washing your face at SpringHill is fun...very, very fun. Trust us.

The Focus: Monsters. Storybrook will be full of them. They'll be here to teach us how to become official monsters ourselves. Because every monster has a special gift and so do you. Find out what gift God has given you and how you can use it!

The Food: Your mom probably doesn't consider candy a food...but she's never met our COW (or "candy on wheels"). Once a day, during cabin time, this little mooooving store will graze at your door. It's better than the ice cream man.

Copper Country campers (all you finishing 4th, 5th and 6th grade this spring), now it's your turn to get psyched about summer at SpringHill:

The Fun: Take all the regular bigger-than-life stuff: zipline, skate park, BMX, horses, gusher, blob. Throw in some souped-up Camp Classic majors: Adventure, Creative, Extreme. Add a little friendly six-square competition, Who's the King battles, and one big Wednesday Night Live bash. Okay, not just fun. This is take-your-breath-away, nothing-else-like-this, mind-bending fun. Trust us.

The Focus: Think a robot knows anything about friendship or love? Well, we'll be showing off some pretty advanced buckets of tin. They live In High Gear. Not hyper, just living. Yeah, a robot that's really living. This will be something to see!

The Food: You've got candy, too. Every day includes a visit to the Trading Post...our candy and pop-filled store. Get a big blast of air conditioning. Then hang out with your friends on the porch, racing to throw down that popsicle before it melts.

All you campers, don't forget...

The Friends: Cabinmates, counselors, activity staff...by the time you leave this place, you'll have too many friends to count. The amazing part is that they'll be friends who REALLY count. Whether you're braving up to conquer great heights or chumming it up by the campfire, you'll have friends all around encouraging you, loving you and just plain having a blast with you. It may be the very best thing about SpringHill.

Do-It-Yourself SpringHill Adventures - You've Been Slimed!

It's green and it's slimy. It doesn't get much better than this. Seriously, though, it's a little messy. So before you throw it or rub it in your little brother's hair - even before you make it - ask your mother! It's SpringHill fun, all right, but remember, you're still at home.

1. Put one cup of water in a bowl and add a couple drops of green food coloring.

2. Using your hands or a wooden spoon, gradually mix in cornstarch. You'll probably need about a box of the stuff to get to the right feel between your fingers.

3. Take the slime outside (after you get the green light from your mom or dad) and have your own mini crud war. If you do it on St. Patrick's Day, you won't get pinched because you'll be wearing green!

Doing the Right Thing

The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace. -Psalm 29:11

Have you ever heard the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego? These guys lived under the rule of a selfish king who wanted everyone in the kingdom to worship him, and he built a giant gold statue of himself to prove it. Well, these guys worshiped God and God alone. And, as in every kingdom, there were some tattletales who told the king this news. The king wasn't happy - at all - so he found these guys and told them to get down on their knees right there and worship his statue of gold or he'd throw them in a fiery furnace.

Now, if anyone needed strength, it was these three guys. The king was threatening their lives and all they had to do was bow for one minute in front of some fake god. Couldn't they pretend? Couldn't they bow but not really mean it in their hearts? Nope. They told the king, hey, God can save us from the furnace and we believe he'll do it; but even if he doesn't save us, we'll still never worship your gold statue.

Can you imagine having this kind of strength and peace? These guys were going to be dealt some pretty bad luck...as in the very worst kind. But they weren't afraid. Why? Because they knew they were doing the right thing. God promises to give strength and peace to those who follow Him. Like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego show us, God gives us strength and peace so we can do the right thing!

Share some questions and answers with your parents: Are there times when you're tempted not to do the right thing because you figure no one will find out or you won't really mean it in your heart? Have you ever asked God for His strength and peace so you can do the right thing?

p.s. Check out the 3rd chapter of Daniel in the Bible to see what happened to Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego!

I Wish God Would Tell Me

Dear Gracie,
Everyone at my new school is so strange about everything. They act very young and laugh at random things like the word "horticulture" in the Spelling Bee. I don't see why they think that if something is different it is considered dumb and funny. I tried to get my mom to let me transfer back to my old school, but she said this is part of God's plan for me. Why would God want me to be miserable?
           From,
           Miserably Plan-less

Dear Miserably Plan-less,
Being in a new place with people who seem to view things differently (or weirdly) can be difficult and lonely. When you're feeling miserable about a situation, like being at the new school you describe, God doesn't want you to feel this way, nor would he plan for you to be unhappy. What God can and will do (if we ask Him) is use a tough circumstance to help us grow. That might not sound like a lot of fun right now, but the good things God can bring out of a hard situation are pretty amazing. Just look at the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the Bible. They were in a pretty miserable situation, but they still did the right thing and never stopped trusting in God. And, in the end, incredible good came out of their circumstances. Ask God to turn your situation around and show you something good. He can do it!
          Love, Gracie
